Good Times: Smashing Pumpkins Concert

Smashing Pumpkins ConcertSo as I mentioned in my last post, I went to a Smashing Pumpkins concert on Tuesday, November 25. It was at the Midland Theater in Kansas City, Missouri and it was amazing. Craig, Jake and I had 14th row seats very close to the stage and it was fantastic. Read the rest of this entry »

Of Voting and Pre-Thanksgiving Break

Sorry I didn’t get to this sooner – it’s quite amazing how homework and projects pile up until I just don’t have time for anything anymore.

So I voted last Tuesday. I could have sent in an advance ballot, but I wanted to do it the “real way” the first time. The Kansas State University Democrats had shuttles going back and forth from the student union to the polls all day so that was nice. I had to go to a nursing home to vote, so that was kinda weird, but it was okay. It was strange because nobody even asked me for my ID or proof of address. I just had to tell the election attendant (is that what they’re called?) my name, she asked me what my address was, I told her, she checked to make sure it matched and I was on my way. They had electronic voting machines with touchscreens. I was quite amazed that they had such technology after all I’ve heard about the crappy voting machines in, say, Florida. It only took me five minutes, if that, to cast my ballot and get my “I voted!” sticker. Watching the poll results roll in was quite fun, too. It was exhilarating and exciting and all kinds of awesome. I did not enjoy the obnoxious girls in my dorm’s hallway spouting about Obama being the anti-Christ and how the apocalypse was nigh but I didn’t really expect anything else out of them. I’m surprised they know how to read. Anyway, I digress. It was just really cool, if that’s the right word, to have voted and been a part of an election. I’m super glad that Palin went back to Alaska where she can do minimal damage to the US, too. Hooray for that.

Thanksgiving break starts on November 26th and I’m really pumped. Not to mention… I don’t think I’ve talked about this here and I can’t believe it now that I think about it… I bought Smashing Pumpkins tickets awhile back since they’re going to be in Kansas City on November 25th. Myself and some friends are going and we’ve got 14th row tickets which isn’t too bad. I’m still in shock about getting to see my favorite band play and I’m really excited. I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high because I don’t want to go and be disappointed, but it’s very hard. So if anyone else happens to be going to the same show in Kansas City on the 25th, I’ll be there and you should say “hi” as long as you’re not a creepy stalkerish person.

As usual, I’ve got quite a bit of work to do before I’m allowed on “break”. I put this in quotes because I’ve got a rather interesting project for my logic class that I’m doing with a friend of mine that we’ll probably have to work on over this “break”. I just really want this semester to be over with. I’m only taking 13 hours next semester just because 16 was entirely too much this semester since I’m working so much. I don’t even remember what I enrolled in, but I do know that I have a 7:30 a.m. class next semester which is going to suck big time. I hate walking to class in the dark.

Pandora

Just thought I’d make a quick post about this awesome Web site I’ve found: Pandora.com. You can create your own “radio station” to listen to – for free! You “thumbs up” songs you like or “thumbs down” songs you don’t. I’ve been listening to it frequently lately because of the lack of a good alternative rock station here at university.

Any interested parties can view my Pandora profile here.

Of Being Addicted

I’m addicted to Facebook.com. (Don’t count on me adding you as a friend, though, because I’m really picky and routinely ‘prune’ my friends list.) Anyways, it seems like every hour (okay, every thirty minutes), I find myself clicking my bookmark icon for Facebook just because I want to see what’s happenin’. Even though I live a relatively boring and solitary life, I’m constantly wondering “what’s happening”. Is there something wrong with me? Hell yes. Do I care? Hell no.

I’m listening to Say Anything and that’s influencing my mental processes at the moment, so please excuse any weird outbursts that a song about laying in bed in boxers half-stoned with a pillow under my head

As you can tell, this post is mostly just a post that I initially forced myself to write and now I’m rambling about.

I have a psychology exam tomorrow and I’m really not looking forward to it at all. It’s one of those subjects that seem easy up until they ask you a weird question that common sense can’t answer, or that common sense contradicts the actual answer. So we’ll see how it goes – I’ll just have to turn off “common sense” for this one.

I’ve just went through and updated all my plugins. That took quite awhile, and I deleted a lot of plugins that were laying about in the folder that I had never even used. This is actually the first time that I’ve ever bothered updating plugins. Do you?

I’ve got one really good idea for a new brush set and I’m throwing around a few more. Like I’ve said previously, if there’s any specific set you’d like to see or even a general type, let me know. I’ve made so many brush sets that I’m just sort of out of ideas at this point.

Of Getting Ready to Graduate

…I graduate on May 20. Time has flown by. I could get all philosophical about everything, but I think I’ll let it suffice to say that I’ll miss everyone and I really hope we can all keep in touch (after all, that’s what Facebook.com is for, right? ;) )

The flooding has subsided, for the most part, here in Kansas so I’m starting to move back into my room. Although at the moment, all I have in my room is my bed and my laptop (not even the carpet.)

Friday night I went out with David to Best Buy and Barnes & Noble. I picked up Bush’s Sixteen Stone and The Postal Service’s Give Up, which I’m only now listening to. I knew Bush would be good, even though it was put out in 2004 and I’ve heard most of the songs before, but I don’t care. I had some money so I finally went out and got one of their albums. I haven’t even opened the Postal Service’s CD… so we’ll see how that goes. (I really need to go out and pick up the Smashing Pumpkins’ albums that I’m missing. By the way, I heard that the Smashing Pumpkins will be releasing their first single on the air on my favorite radio station, 96.5 The Buzz Monday. I’m excited. Beyond excited. I can’t wait. My beloved Pumpkins are back, baby…!)

At Barnes & Noble I got a “Grow your own Venus Flytrap” kit. And a graduation present for Wry. Then David and I went to Spangle’s for some ’50s style root beer floats. He got a bit perturbed with me when I made myself a ice cream mustache and made fun of him and his whiskers, but oh well. Like he and the other kids haven’t given me any crap for being the only girl in my C++ and JAVA programming classes… :P I had lots of fun.

Today I went to the Cruise Night on Kansas Avenue with David – lots of nice old cars (the rule is only cars from ‘77 and earlier.) I’m a bit of a sucker for muscle cars with racing stripes… just a tiny bit ;) Ha, that’s a bit of an understatement. My favorite is the ‘67 Chevelle. Ooh, la la. Me gusta mucho el coche de Chevelle de 1967. :) That’s horrible Spanish but oh well. It was great, lovely weather, kickass cars… David

I got to see David’s cockatiel’s after the cruise night. Oh, they’re so cute. I love them. They just don’t like me, they hiss at me and fly away every time I try to come and pet them :( The only time they’ll let me near them is if I have food to give them  Anyways, hopefully I will grow on them because I sure do like them!

I’m getting tired but hopefully I’ll be blogging again soon :) Finals next week!
